Ben-Gvir’s Controversial Statements Regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque

Ben-Gvir'in Mescid-i Aksa İle İlgili Tartışmalı Açıklamaları

In an interview with Israel’s Army Radio, Israeli Internal Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir claimed that current policies allow Jews to worship in the Al-Aqsa Mosque. When asked, “Would you build a synagogue in the Al-Aqsa Mosque?” Ben-Gvir responded unequivocally with a “Yes.” This statement drew attention because it had the potential to increase tensions in the region.

Following these developments, the Israeli Prime Ministry Press Office issued a statement arguing that Ben-Gvir’s statements did not change the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque. However, this statement was not found satisfactory enough by the public and the discussions continued rapidly.

Interior Minister warns Netanyahu

Israeli Interior Minister Moshe Arbel called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to object to Ben-Gvir’s statements. Arbel said, “This far-right minister needs to be warned immediately,” expressing concern that Ben-Gvir’s statements could lead to “bloodshed.” This situation has also created tension within the Israeli government.

Ben-Gvir’s Frequent Raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque

Ben-Gvir is known for his anti-Palestinian views and has frequently raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque. During his most recent raid on the Masjid al-Haram on August 13, he said, “There are major developments regarding the administration and sovereignty of this place. Jews are seen praying here.” This has the potential to further increase religious and political tensions in the region.

Ben-Gvir’s statement, “As I have said before, our policy is to allow (Jews) to worship here,” found great resonance in both local and international public opinion. Such statements could negatively affect the peace process in the region.
