Energy Projects Talks Between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan
According to Afghan media, Turkmen and Afghan delegations met at the Turgundi Border Gate in Herat province. During this important meeting, cooperation and projects in the field of energy between the two countries were discussed. In particular, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Natural Gas Pipeline Project, railway construction, electricity supply from Turkmenistan, as well as infrastructure development projects were discussed.
In the main lines of the meeting, both sides expressed their determination to strengthen political, economic and cultural relations. They emphasized that both countries are ready to implement the projects. Turkmen Foreign Minister Meredov stated that work on these projects will begin as soon as possible.
Following the political transformation in Afghanistan in August 2021, the interim government began to seek ways to improve the country’s economic situation by prioritizing infrastructure and energy projects. In this context, cooperation with Turkmenistan has great potential to meet Afghanistan’s energy needs and economic development.
