Gazprom announced that it will ship 38.5 million cubic meters of natural gas to Europe via Ukraine today. It was stated that the shipment will be carried out from the measuring station in Suca, while it was noted that the gas flow from the Sohranivka station in the region was stopped due to a decision taken by the Ukrainian side. These developments come after the conflicts between the Russian and Ukrainian armies that started on August 7.
Ukraine’s Shipping Status
In May 2022, Ukraine stopped shipments at the Sohranivka distribution point, through which a third of Russian natural gas bound for Europe passes. This has led to gas shipments continuing only from Suca. Gazprom ships an average of 42 million cubic meters of natural gas per day from the Suca station.
Impacts on the European Gas Market
Developments in the region also affect natural gas prices. In the Netherlands-based TTF, Europe’s deepest virtual natural gas trading point, the gas price per megawatt-hour in September futures contracts closed yesterday at 40 euros, the highest level of this year. This situation is interpreted as an indicator of energy security and market fluctuations.
