Statement from Burdur Governorship
Burdur Governorship informed the public about the asphalt road work carried out around Salda Lake. In the statement, it was emphasized that there is no question of opening a new road around Lake Salda, and the aim is to improve the existing road. It was stated that strengthening and improvement works were carried out on the road that has been used for years, providing transportation for the people of the region.
Environmental Protection Sensitivity
It was stated that great importance was given to environmental sensitivity in Lake Salda and its surroundings, which was declared a Special Environmental Protection Area in 2019. It was emphasized that no negative impact should be allowed in the region and that conservation work should be carried out meticulously In addition, it was stated that the work was carried out around Lake Salda was carried out in an environmentally friendly and non-harmful way.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Scientific advisor of the Turkish Nature Conservation Association, Dr. Following Erol Kesici’s warnings, the asphalt road work in the western part of Salda Lake came to the fore. Kesici stated that the asphalt used on the road contains carcinogens and will negatively affect the life in the lake. Following these warnings, concerns increased about the potential of the works to damage the lake and its surroundings.
