Details of the incident
The incident, which took place on the evening of August 6 at a fishing port near Bostanlı Pier in Karşıyaka district of İzmir, deeply shook the local people. Security forces noticed a foul smell coming from a boat during a routine check.
In a comprehensive examination of the boat, a woman’s body was found in the freezer. The identification determined that the body belonged to 35-year-old Hilmiye Tuğba Esgin. The prosecutor and security forces who arrived at the scene made detailed examinations on the body and took Esgin’s lifeless body to the Izmir Forensic Medicine Institute morgue.
According to initial examinations, no cutting or piercing wounds were detected on Esgin’s body. However, according to the preliminary autopsy report, the possibility of death by drowning is being considered. It was reported that more detailed autopsy results are awaited regarding the exact cause of Esgin’s death.
Following the incident, the boat owner Şenol A., his wife Belgin A. and an employee were detained. It was reported that the suspects’ procedures at the police station are ongoing.
Precautions Taken to Hide the Corpse
It was learned that the suspect who was detained carried bags of ice onto the boat in order to prevent the body from emitting a smell. This situation reveals the seriousness of the incident and the effort to hide it. It was stated that the investigation launched into the incident is continuing meticulously.
