Statement on the Young Palestinian Martyr in Palestine
In an official written statement from the Jerusalem Governorate of Palestine, it was reported that 17-year-old Shadi Visam Shiyha was shot and killed by occupying Israeli soldiers while working at a car wash in the town of Anata. This painful incident was recorded as another striking example of the violence that Palestinian youth are subjected to.
According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, the town of Anata is part of the occupied West Bank, which is connected to Jerusalem and is surrounded by the Separation Wall (Wall of Shame). During the incident, Shiyha was seriously injured by gunfire from an Israeli sniper while he was working at his workplace. According to the details of the incident, the sniper targeted Shiyha because he was throwing stones at Israeli soldiers from over the Separation Wall.
Shiyha was immediately taken to hospital but could not be saved despite all interventions. This incident is recorded as part of the increasing violence and attacks in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem since October 7, 2023. With Shiyha’s martyrdom, the number of Palestinians martyred by Israeli soldiers and settlers during this period has increased to 625.
Since Israel launched its offensive against the Gaza Strip, there has been a significant increase in detentions, raids and attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem. This further increases tensions in the region and threatens the security of the Palestinian people.
