Israel’s Regional Security Concerns

İsrail'in Bölgesel Güvenlik Endişeleri

Israeli retired Major General Yitzhak Brik made important assessments about the security situation in the region in an article titled “Israel is rapidly moving towards a regional war in which it is completely dependent on the US”, which he published on the website of Channel 12 television .

Brik said that in recent days, some people have advocated for preemptive attacks against Iran and Hezbollah, adding, “These people ignore the fact that any preemptive attack against Hezbollah and Iran would immediately lead to a regional war.”

Emphasizing that if Israel launches a possible preemptive attack, settlements, power plants, gas stations, industrial infrastructure and military bases will be exposed to thousands of rocket and drone attacks every day, Brik said, “The Israeli army alone does not have the strength to respond to a regional war, defend its national infrastructure or effectively defeat Iran, Hezbollah and their proxies.”

Any preemptive strike against Iran and Hezbollah would certainly lead to a regional war, but if the response was mild, the possibility of entering a regional conflict was not certain, Brik said.

‘If Netanyahu doesn’t listen to Biden, we will be alone in a possible war’

In any case, the Israeli army is not capable of dealing with a regional war, Brik said, emphasizing that the army does not have the power to resist on its own and therefore urgently needs the support of the United States. “Israel’s absolute dependence on the United States shows that its survival in a regional war is also completely dependent on Washington,” Brik said.

Brik said that US President Joe Biden prevented Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from launching a preemptive strike and stated that they would not stand by the US if he took such a step. Brik predicted this situation as follows:

  • “Biden indicated to Netanyahu that if Hezbollah and Iran cross the red line and cause major harm to Israeli citizens, a full-scale regional war could be inevitable.”
  • “But Biden believes that even in this case, the United States, together with Israel, will launch a harsh offensive against the military and economic targets of Iran and Hezbollah.”
  • “If Netanyahu does not heed Biden’s advice, I think we will risk being left alone in a possible war.”
