Aviation Security Warning: Watch Out for Iranian Airspace!
Due to the rising tensions between Egypt, Israel and Iran, an important security warning has been issued to all airlines. Egypt has stated that flights should avoid Iranian airspace between 03:00 and 07:00 tomorrow, Turkish Time.
“Stay away from Iranian airspace between 03:00 and 07:00”
In anticipation of a possible Iranian attack on Israel, Egypt’s civil aviation authorities have issued a NOTAM (Notices to Airmen) to all airlines. In this NOTAM, Egypt has asked all airlines to avoid Iranian airspace between 03:00 and 07:00 Turkish Time tomorrow. Egypt has emphasized that flights should not be made over the Tehran Flight Information Region (FIR) during this period.
- All Egyptian carriers should avoid flying over Tehran FIR during the specified time zone.
- No flight plans will be accepted over the said area.
While no details were given about the background to the security alert, it is believed to be related to tensions in the region. Jordan also requested that all airlines carry 45 minutes of extra fuel as of Sunday. This once again highlights how important security measures have become in the aviation sector.
