Important Messages from King Abdullah of Jordan to US Congressional Delegation
King Abdullah received a delegation from the US Congress in the capital Amman, Jordan’s official news agency PETRA reported. During this important meeting, current developments in the region and opportunities for strengthening the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States were discussed.
King Abdullah stressed during the meeting that it was essential to achieve comprehensive calm in order to reduce tensions in the region and prevent a possible war. The King said, “As the conflict in Gaza continues, the areas of conflict that threaten regional stability will continue to expand.”
In this context, King Abdullah stressed the need to step up international efforts to achieve an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. He reiterated his country’s commitment to peace, saying, “Jordan will not be a battlefield and will never allow the lives of its people to be put at risk.”
King Abdullah also underlined the danger posed by the attacks of Israeli forces, who have usurped Palestinian lands in the occupied West Bank, on the sacred values of Palestinian Muslims and Christians, and said, “These problems threaten the security not only of the Palestinians but of the entire region.” In this context, the King emphasized the need to focus on the two-state solution.
