Arrest and Objection Process in Kucukcekmece
Arrested on July 23 on charges of “openly hurting the public to hatred and hostility” as part of an investigation conducted by the Küçükçekmece Public Prosecutor’s Office, ZK’s lawyer submitted a petition of objection to his client’s detention. The Küçükçekmece 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, which examined the petition of objection, ruled for ZK’s release, considering the upper limit of the crime the suspect was charged with, the fact that evidence had been collected, and the absence of any suspicion of escape .
What Happened?
The Küçükçekmece Public Prosecutor’s Office had determined that statements targeting the Prophet Muhammad and insulting religious values were used in a street interview conducted in the Avcılar Merkez Neighborhood on July 21. In line with this, the suspect was identified and detained by police teams. ZK was sent to the courthouse and arrested.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced to the public the arrest of the suspect in a post on his social media account. This incident had a great impact on social sensitivities and once again revealed the importance of sensitivity regarding attacks on religious values.
