Netanyahu’s Meeting with Biden and His Requests for Weapons
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited the United States in late July, made a critical request to US President Joe Biden during that meeting. Netanyahu asked for heavier bombs to be sent if tensions escalate with Lebanese Hezbollah on the northern border.
According to the Israel Hayom newspaper, Biden responded positively to Netanyahu’s request and approved the transfer of half-ton MK-83 bombs used in warplanes. However, it is stated that Washington has not yet made a decision on the transfer of one-ton MK-84 bombs.
The approved half-ton MK-83 bombs are expected to reach Israel along with approximately 1,700 MK-82 bombs weighing 250 kilograms, the shipment of which was halted by the Biden administration after they were loaded onto the ship. It is stated that the MK-82 bombs were halted on Biden’s direct orders due to Israel’s attacks on the Rafah region in the southern Gaza Strip.
It is known that the US restricted sending weapons to Israel for a while after the October 7 attacks, but has recently started sending weapons again. The sending of these heavy weapons has led to various discussions in the public.
