Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) has blocked access to the popular social media platform Instagram. This decision was taken following a post made by Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun on the social media platform X on July 31, 2023.
Altun had published a condolence message following Haniye’s death and stated that Instagram had blocked users’ posts on the subject, saying, “I also strongly condemn the social media platform Instagram, which has blocked people from posting condolence messages due to Haniye’s martyrdom without any justification . This is a very clear and obvious attempt at censorship.”
Instagram Access Blocked
Following these harsh statements by Fahrettin Altun, it was announced that BTK would block access to Instagram on August 2, 2023. It was learned from BTK’s official website information query menu that a decision to block access to Instagram had been made. However, no official statement has yet been made as to why the access ban was made and how long it will be valid.
