Fenerbahçe has taken action to strengthen its defensive line ahead of the new season. The yellow-navy team wants to take the field with a stronger squad in the qualifying matches they will play in the Champions League. In line with this, they plan to transfer experienced player Mateo Kovacic from Premier League giant Manchester City upon the request of Technical Director Jose Mourinho.
According to the news in the British press, Fenerbahçe Technical Director Mourinho met with Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola and decided to take steps for the Kovacic transfer. Following this development, it is stated that Fenerbahçe Sporting Director Mario Branco will also go to England to meet with Manchester City officials.
Mateo Kovacic, who transferred from Chelsea for £30 million, has not been able to find a consistent form at Manchester City. It is being said that City, who are looking for a strong alternative in midfield, may approve Kovacic’s departure. Kovacic has a contract until 2027 and his current market value is stated as €30 million.
