Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Speaks to House of Representatives About Trump Assassination Attempt
US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle shared details about the assassination attempt against former President Trump during a hearing she attended in the House of Representatives. Cheatly emphasized that the assassination attempt against Trump was unacceptable and she took responsibility on behalf of the institution for the security problems experienced.
Cheatle described the assassination attempt as “the biggest operational failure the Secret Service has experienced in many years” and stated that the necessary steps were being taken to fully clarify the incident and prevent similar security lapses from occurring again.
Cheatle, who has been subject to calls for his resignation from Republican members of Congress, made statements against criticism regarding the security lapses related to the assassination attempt against Trump.
Attempted Assassination of Trump
Former US President Donald Trump was attacked with a gun during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13. As a result of the attack, 1 person died and 2 people were injured. The US Secret Service announced that the attacker was neutralized.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that the attack was an assassination attempt and that the attacker was 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
