The army has issued a new statement on the matter, despite Hamas’ announcement on March 10 that two prisoners had died in the clashes. The army, which has so far rejected Hamas’ March statement, has confirmed the deaths of Dancyg, 76, and Buchshtab, 35, after receiving new intelligence information.
The army, which carried out its offensive in Khan Younis between December and April, confirmed that two prisoners may have been “mistakenly” killed in attacks in Khan Younis, without disclosing the exact circumstances of their deaths. A number of Israeli prisoners have been “mistakenly” killed in attacks on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli army since October 7.
Buchshtab’s wife was released on November 28 as part of a prisoner swap between Israel and Hamas. There are reportedly 116 Israeli captives in Gaza, of whom 44 are presumed dead.
