President Biden Endorses Vice President Kamala Harris
President Biden officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the presidential ticket after announcing the end of his re-election campaign. This move increases the possibility of Harris becoming the first Black woman and the first person of Indian descent to hold the presidency in the United States.
Preparation for Leadership Role
Vice President Harris has been actively preparing for this moment over the past year by emerging as a strong voice within the Biden campaign, particularly on issues such as abortion rights and criticisms of former President Donald J. Trump.
President Biden had a conversation with Vice President Harris on Sunday morning before publicly announcing his decision to step down as the Democratic nominee. Shortly after, he endorsed Harris, who promptly expressed her determination to “earn and win this nomination.”
Transitioning the Campaign
Vice President Harris will now be taking over the extensive infrastructure of President Biden’s campaign, which includes approximately 1,300 staff members and numerous offices across the country. There are indications that this transition is already in progress.
During a call with the Biden campaign staff, Jen O’Malley Dillon, the Biden campaign chairwoman, and Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the Biden campaign manager, informed the team that they would now be working for “Harris for President.” The staff was assured that the operations would continue seamlessly under the new leadership.
