The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced that the earthquake that occurred in San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta region of Chile, had a magnitude of 7.4. The earthquake occurred at a depth of approximately 117 kilometers.
No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake, and no loss of life or property has been reported so far. The earthquake, which was also felt in the southern regions of Peru, Tacna and Arequipa, caused panic among the public.
The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) announced that the possible damage from the earthquake was being assessed. The Naval Hydrography and Oceanography Service (SHOA) announced that there were no conditions that would cause a tsunami warning on the Chilean coast.
