The paper production facility, established on an area of 310 thousand square meters in the Söke Organized Industrial Zone, which was officially opened by President Erdoğan on January 15, 2022, faced a fire disaster. The fire, which broke out in Turkey’s and Europe’s largest paper production facility, caused an investment of approximately $550 million to be reduced to ashes.
It was stated that 800 people were employed at the facility and that the fire had been fought since July 12. The fire, which got out of control due to the wind, could not be extinguished and the facility turned into a mountain of ash. While cooling efforts continue, the state of the factory after the fire is heartbreaking.
