“Just because we have to de-escalate our politics around violence doesn’t mean we have to stop telling the truth,” Biden said in his speech at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) convention in Las Vegas yesterday, drawing attention to the increasing tension in politics.

  • Speaking about the assassination attempt against Trump, Biden stated that it was gratifying that the former President escaped without serious injury and offered his prayers for him and his family.

Biden pointed out the escalation in the country’s politics, saying, ” It’s time to have a big conversation in this country. On Sunday night in the Oval Office, I said, as I have made clear throughout my presidency, that we all have a responsibility to reduce tensions and condemn violence in all its forms. We must remember that in America, we are not enemies. We are friends, we are neighbors, we are fellow Americans.” he said.

  • President Biden, who called for a “softening of politics,” also referred to Trump in his speech. Biden stated that the former President’s term was “hell” for black Americans, accusing him of depriving millions of black Americans of health insurance.

Biden stressed that violence is not the solution and stated that he opposes all violence, including that against black Americans like George Floyd. “More children in America die from gunshot wounds than any other cause. It’s shocking and sickening,” he said.

“If you want to stand against violence in America, then join me in removing these weapons of war from the streets of America. An AR-15 was used to shoot Trump. It’s time to ban them,” Biden said.
