Search and rescue teams in Peru have found the body of a climber who went missing 22 years ago. The 59-year-old climber and his team were buried in an avalanche while climbing a 6,700-meter mountain in the Andes. According to a statement made by Peruvian police on Monday, the climber’s body was found as a result of the melting of ice in the region. It was stated that the body, his clothes, climbing gear and boots were well preserved by the cold. Police announced that the climber’s identity was determined thanks to the passport found on the body.
Another Body Found Last Month
The mountains in northeastern Peru are home to snowy peaks such as Huascaran and Cashan, and attract climbers from around the world. Last month, the body of 35-year-old Italian climber Tomas Franchini was found in the region. It was reported that he died after falling during the climb. In May, the body of an Israeli climber was found about a month after he went missing.
