According to the BBC, one attendee, Greg Smith, claimed that the attacker was spotted by onlookers before he carried out the attack. Smith said that he clearly saw the attacker crawl onto the roof and that he was carrying a gun. He also said that the attacker remained on the roof for “three or four minutes” before being subdued. Smith said that police forces swarmed around and reported the attacker but there was no intervention.
Another eyewitness told CBS News that he noticed the attacker moving from one building to another and called police. However, the officer could not see the attacker and heard gunshots a few minutes later.
During the incident, former US President Trump was reported to have been injured in his right ear and was in good health. One person died in the attack. The US Secret Service announced that the attacker fired at the podium from a high point outside the rally area, and the FBI described it as an assassination attempt.
