According to a statement by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with US Deputy Secretary of State Joey Leaf in the capital Amman. It was reported that the two discussed issues such as ending Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, completing the prisoner swap agreement and ensuring aid flows into Gaza.
Safedi and Leaf, who also evaluated efforts to strengthen cooperation between Jordan and the US, noted that the US official did not disclose details regarding the date of his arrival in Jordan and the duration of his visit.
The United States, led by Qatar and Egypt, is working to reach a deal between Israel and Hamas that would include a prisoner swap and a ceasefire. Last week, Hamas and Israel made promising progress in ceasefire talks.
After the Hamas delegation announced that it had conveyed its response to the ceasefire draft on the table to the mediators, Israeli security authorities stated that “this is the first time they have come this close”, while Mossad sources emphasized that “there is a golden opportunity for a prisoner swap agreement”.
