Following the snap general elections in France, the opposition has reacted by breaking the silence of President Emmanuel Macron. Macron’s statements that he would not appoint a new prime minister were criticized by the opposition after his left-wing alliance, the New Popular Front, emerged victorious.

Opposition leader Jean-Luc Melenchon said Macron did not recognize the election results and ignored the will of the people, thus harming democracy. Manon Aubry and Clemence Guette from the far-left Unyielding France (LFI) also criticized Macron, saying that the country was faced with a shocking and irresponsible attitude.

Jordan Bardella, leader of the far-right National Rally (RN), accused Macron of bringing the far-left to the doorstep of power and said he had brought the country to a standstill.

Voters of the left alliance have called for a general strike against the Paris Olympic Games, saying “No left-wing government, no Olympics”.
