A major arms deal has been made between the US and Germany ahead of the NATO Summit in Washington. According to the joint statement, Tomahawk cruise missiles and other long-range weapons will be deployed in Germany starting in 2026.
The statement stressed that the deployment of these long-range weapons in Europe would underscore the US commitment to NATO and its contribution to European security. The weapons to be deployed will include SM-6s, Tomahawk missiles and hypersonic weapons currently under development.
The US last deployed such weapons in Germany in the early 1990s.
All of these weapons will have a much greater range than existing land-based systems across Europe, the agreement said, which was the last time the US deployed long-range weapons to Germany in the early 1990s.
