Coast guard teams were dispatched to the region after receiving a tip-off and searched for the Chinese woman for 36 hours with the assistance of a helicopter. The woman was found off the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture thanks to a radio signal detected by a transport ship sailing in the area.
Woman Found Inside Swim Ring
The woman, who was in a swimming ring, was rescued by a coast guard helicopter. After receiving first aid, the 21-year-old Chinese woman was taken to hospital and was reported to be conscious but she had been without water for a long time.
Woman: “I Realized I Was Drifting”
The woman stated that she realized she was drifting about 30 minutes after entering the sea and that she could not return to the beach. It was determined that she drifted as far as the Boso Peninsula east of Tokyo, 80 kilometers from the Shirahama Ohama coast where she entered the sea.
