According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and CIA Director William Burns, who is visiting the country, met in Cairo. During the meeting, joint efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza were discussed.
Sisi stressed that Israel’s military attacks on the Gaza Strip must be stopped and that serious steps must be taken to prevent the conflict in the region from expanding. He also stressed the importance of a two-state solution for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
Burns expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to send humanitarian aid. A CIA delegation that arrived in Egypt ahead of the new round of ceasefire talks in Gaza is making efforts to reach an agreement on a prisoner swap and to resume indirect talks to secure a ceasefire.
