Left Alliance Emerges Victorious
The Left Alliance emerged victorious in the second round of early general elections in France. Record Increase in Participation Rates
The second round of general elections saw a record increase in turnout. The turnout rate, which was 59.71 in the 2023 elections, reached its highest level in recent years. The intense interest from voters in the second round signaled a significant change in the French political atmosphere.
The Decline of the Far Right
The far-right alliance, which came first in the first round and fell to the third place in the second round, producing results contrary to expectations. The cooperation between the Macron camp and the left-wing parties prevented the far-right from gaining an advantage and led to the victory of the Left Alliance.
Old Names Re-elected as Deputies
Former politicians also achieved significant success in the French general elections. Former President François Hollande was elected as an MP from the Correze region, while Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin and former Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne were among those re-elected as MPs.
Security Measures Increased
Security measures have been increasing throughout France due to the elections. While 30,000 security guards have been assigned to counter potential demonstrations against the far-right, police and gendarmerie teams have been mobilized in Paris and other cities. Shopkeepers have also taken to protecting their shops against the risk of vandalism.
