Gendarmerie Private Osman Savsar, registered in Afyonkarahisar, suddenly fell ill while performing his military service in the Çaldıran district of Van in 1988. Savsar reported the situation to his commander and requested that he be transferred to the provincial infirmary immediately. However, due to the roads being closed due to snow, Osman Savsar was carried on sledges to an area cleared of snow and later lost his life while being taken to the provincial infirmary by vehicle.
The family of Gendarmerie Private Osman Savsar had applied for martyrdom many times during that period but were rejected. In January of last year, as a result of the efforts of İsmail Kumartaşlı, the Afyonkarahisar Branch President of the Turkish War Disabled Veterans, Martyrs, Widows and Orphans Association, it was decided to accept Osman Savsar as a martyr.
When the General Directorate of Retirement Fund notified that Osman Savsar was registered as a martyr, İsmail Kumartaşlı went to the family and gave them the news. Mother Melahat Savsar prayed for those who supported her son considered to be a martyr and the emotional moments were experienced.
