Rishi Sunak congratulates Labour Party
Rishi Sunak, conceding his election defeat, said at 04.40 in the morning: “Labour has won this general election and I called Keir Starmer to congratulate him.” Labour won a majority in the House of Commons, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.

Labour is predicted to win 410 seats, while the Conservatives are predicted to get 144. Former attorney general Sir Keir said his party would bring about change and “the time to make it happen is now”.

There are 650 MPs in the House of Commons, with Labour predicted to have 410 seats, the Conservatives 144 and the Liberal Democrats 58. Labour is expected to have a majority of 170 seats.
Election of the New Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak is set to resign and hand over power to Sir Keir Starmer. The process for the new prime minister to take office will be fast-tracked and Sir Keir will be formally invited to Buckingham Palace by the Queen.
Who is Keir Starmer?
Sir Keir began his career as a barrister and rose to become director of public prosecutions. Keir entered politics in 2015 and became Labour leader in 2019, succeeding Jeremy Corbyn. Re-elected Sir Keir said they were ready for change and would end performance policy.
