Medet Doğan, a graduate of Marmara University Technical Education Faculty Metal Works Department, worked as a teacher for 4 years. However, after a brain surgery, he decided to return to his homeland, Tokat. Doğan, who bought 1 acre of unused land in Niksar, initially engaged in animal husbandry, then turned to agriculture by setting up a greenhouse.
Doğan, who has been growing agricultural products for 17 years, has expanded his land to 22 acres and established 12 greenhouses. Doğan meets the region’s need for tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and eggplants in the summer months and produces lettuce in the winter months. He has also expanded his business by employing 10 workers.
Transition from Teaching to Agriculture:
Doğan states that he pays his employees the same amount as teachers’ salaries. Although he was a teacher himself, he managed to earn more income by turning to agriculture. Doğan states, “I pay my workers the same amount as teachers’ salaries. I employ people for the same amount of income as teachers.”
“Decision to Return to My Hometown:”
Doğan, who had health problems and underwent brain surgery while working as a manager in Istanbul, decided to return to his homeland during this period. Establishing in Tokat and starting agricultural and greenhouse management, Doğan stated, “I am very pleased. Today, I earn much more than I would earn from teaching.”
