A group of protesters holding “Free Palestine” banners held a demonstration in support of Palestine outside the Australian Parliament, 9 News reported, calling on the Australian government to promote peace and “end its complicity in war crimes.”
Police detained four people who went up to the roof of the Parliament building and chanted slogans in support of Palestine during the demonstration. It was reported that no negative incidents occurred during the demonstration.
The Green Party’s movement to recognise Palestine as a state was rejected for the second time on June 25. After the sole Labor senator, Fatima Payman, supported the motion, her right to attend party caucuses was suspended indefinitely.
