Teams are responding to the forest fire in Bornova district of Izmir by air and land. The fire started at 13:37 and teams are reported to have started responding quickly. The Sabuncubeli section of the Izmir-Manisa highway has been closed to traffic in both directions as a precaution and vehicles have been directed to alternative routes.
2 Neighborhoods Evacuated, 7 Houses Damaged
The Sarnıçköy and Beşyol neighborhoods were evacuated due to the fire. İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban stated that the fire started in the Beşyol area and spread rapidly during his examinations in the region. Governor Elban said that they intervened in the fire from the air with 9 helicopters and 6 planes, and from the land with numerous fire trucks, water tenders, water tankers and dozers.
Governor Elban said, “There has been no loss of life or injury in the fire so far. However, 3 of our houses in Beşyol and 4 in Sarnıç were damaged. There is no danger in the village at the moment, but the fire continues in the surrounding forest areas.”
