EU Leaders Prepare for New Era in Brussels

European Union (EU) leaders aim to reach an agreement on determining the high-level officials who will manage the union in the new period at the summit to be held in Brussels. The two-day summit will take place and strategic decisions will be made to determine the positions of the President of the European Council, the President of the EU Commission and the EU Foreign Policy Chief.

According to information received, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to retain her seat for another five years. At the summit, the leaders of the 27 member states are expected to reach an agreement to appoint former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa as the President of the EU Council and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas as the EU Foreign Policy Chief. In addition, strengthened military aid messages are expected to come out of the summit, where military aid to Ukraine will be discussed.

  • He stated that before the summit, the leaders will discuss Russia’s aggressive attitude towards Ukraine and discuss the EU’s support for Ukraine.
  • It is expected to shape the EU’s strategic agenda in areas such as migration, security, trade competition, foreign policy and defence for the next five years.
  • It is also reported that the leaders will discuss regional issues in the Middle East and ceasefire efforts in Gaza.
