Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made important statements regarding the issue of early elections and party policies in his statements to L. Doğan Tılıç from BirGün newspaper.
“I will not run away from early elections, I will run for this”
Regarding the early elections, Özel said, “I will not run away from the early elections, I will run for this,” and stated that there could be an early election “one and a half years from today.” Özel stated that citizens are slowly starting to demand elections and said, “Erdoğan was elected for 5 years, but I think there will be early elections 2.5 years after his election, 1.5 years from today.”
“My concern is to normalize with the voters of MHP and AK Party”
Özel said, “I am not seeking to normalize the government. I will normalize even if there is no MHP or AK Party. My concern is to normalize with their voters” and emphasized that they are fighting against the AKP’s policy of portraying the CHP as a “quarrelsome party”.
“We will work to ensure one-on-one meetings with Assad”
Özel stated that when they come to power, they will be able to meet the European Union membership conditions in two years, and noted the following regarding the CHP’s refugee policy: “We do not want refugees to stay in Turkey or for the de facto situation to become permanent. That is why we want to make very active moves in the coming days, to take initiative on the solution of the Syrian problem, to meet one-on-one with Assad if necessary, to re-establish the communication channels between Turkey and Syria and to ensure that Syrians return to their country.” “We will work to ensure their safe return.” Özel emphasized that the refugee problem must be solved and said, “The refugee problem must be solved, but doing this with hatred and the language of hate suits neither Turkey nor our party.”
