The holiday in Bodrum district of Muğla was met with great interest from local tourists. However, the last days of the holiday caused garbage pollution on the beaches. 7 thousand 800 tons of garbage left by holidaymakers mobilized Bodrum Municipality teams.

Beaches Are Full of Garbage

In the last days of the holiday, plastic, drink bottles and bags of garbage accumulated on the coastline, especially at Gumbet Beach. Bodrum Municipality carried out cleaning works on the beaches with 340 personnel and 169 vehicles. While an average of 150 tons of garden waste was collected daily before the holiday, this figure increased by 33 percent to 200 tons per day during the holiday. 800 tons of garden waste was collected during the holiday.

Increase in the Amount of Domestic Waste

While the teams collected an average of 690 tons of domestic waste per day before the holiday, this figure increased by 40 percent and reached 975 tons per day during the holiday. A total of 3,900 tons of domestic waste was collected during the holiday. In total, 7 thousand 800 tons of garbage were cleaned.
