The “silent march” organized in Erzurum to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza, which has been carried out uninterruptedly for 32 weeks, continues with increasing support. Doctors, medical school students and other healthcare professionals, who gathered every week in front of the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, walked to Yakutiye Madrasa with banners in their hands.
The group, carrying the flags of Turkey and Palestine, showed their support with banners saying “I cannot applaud oppression, I cannot support the oppressor”, “Free Palestine”, “A thousand salutes to the resisting Gaza”, “They burned our houses ” and “I am not sleeping, I was killed”. While women contributed to the event by placing shrouded baby models inside strollers, children supported their mothers and fathers with poems and songs.
Speaking after the silent march, Şifanur Şeker, a student at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, stated that they continued their protests despite the Eid holiday and said, “We will never give up our rightful cause and our belief in the support we provide. Israel Oppresses our Muslim brothers without listening to Eid celebrations and targets children and civilians. Take healthcare workers and hospitals into consideration.” “For this reason, even if we are small in number, we take to the streets regardless of who we are with or without considering our numbers.” he said
