Yusufeli Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Completed
The Yusufeli Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant project, which is located in the Yusufeli district and is the highest dam in Turkey and the 5th highest in the world, has been implemented. The dam draws attention with its 275-meter body height. The construction of the project, the foundation of which was laid on February 26, 2013, has been completed. The dam’s installed capacity is 558 megawatts and annual energy production is planned as 1 billion 888 million kilowatt-hours.
Adaptation Process in New Settlement
When the dam started to hold water, the Yusufeli district center and surrounding villages were flooded. Due to this situation, the people had to move to new settlements. Modern housing was built in the new settlements and the people were made to adapt. During this process, tradesmen and people migrated to the new settlements approximately 2 years ago. While business owner Akif Korucu stated that the workplaces in the new settlements were more organized and beautiful, other citizens also stated that they adapted to their new lives.
Living Experience in the New District
Mehmet Kaba, who is a businessman, said, “The heart longs for the old district, but there are many innovations in the new district. We now live a more modern life. We have a more comfortable life with opportunities such as natural gas. ” Citizens who stated that they are happy with their homes are enjoying the new villa-type houses and modern living standards.

Citizens living in new settlements stated that they have established closer relationships with their new neighbors and live in a more beautiful environment. Betül Ardıç Aykan said, “In our new neighborhood, we are very close to other neighborhoods and in a beautiful place. We have a lake view and villa-style houses. We have a living space where everyone can plant a garden as they wish. “
