Living in the Reşatbey Neighborhood of the central Seyhan district, 79-year-old Yıldız Özgen’s husband Mehmet passed away 21 years ago. The elderly woman, who inherited several apartments from her husband, started living in the Çekmegil Apartment in the Reşatbey Neighborhood.

The house of Yıldız Özgen, who has Alzheimer’s disease, has turned into a garbage house over the years. After neighbors reported a bad smell, municipal teams came to the house and uncovered the garbage house. The teams cleaned the house and carried out disinfection work.

Başak Kestek, one of the residents of the apartment building, said, “When we first moved into the apartment, it wasn’t like this. She lost her husband years ago and lost her mental balance within 5-10 years. When we contacted the municipality and the cleaning company last year, they cleaned it. Since she has Alzheimer’s, her apartment has turned into a garbage apartment again. Today, we applied to the governor’s office and the municipality again. The cleaning process was done, but the woman’s health and appearance are very bad. She can’t meet her nutritional needs. There are bugs everywhere in the house right now. Her beds were infested. We will throw them out and make up for it with new pillows and a bed.”

Yıldız Özgen, who started cleaning and disinfecting her house again, said, “They came, they left. How many times is this? My house was clean. They dirty it. They left a short time ago. I am fine now. I feel good when I see you. They tore the house apart. 15 people came and went. The house has been like this for two days. They tore it apart, they searched, they took it away, they moved it, they did something.”
