Following the warning made by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the heavy rain that was effective in Kadıköy increased its intensity in a short time and caused hard times for the residents of the neighborhood. While the basements of some apartments in Hasanpaşa Neighborhood were filled with rainwater, houses and workplaces were flooded.
Fire brigade and İSKİ teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification and began working to prevent flooding and support evacuation efforts. However, some citizens whose homes were flooded had to make efforts to evacuate the water with their own means.
The residents of the apartment building, whose belongings were destroyed, reacted to the situation they were living in and stated that the damage they suffered was great. Local Özge Kilerci said, “It suddenly started to rain. Our house is in the basement of this building, water came halfway up to my window. We were underwater because the manholes were closed. The house of our neighbor’s 80-year-old aunt “was also filled with water. The damage is great, the crews just arrived.”
Ahmet Yıldız expressed his reaction by saying, “The situation is dire, there is a municipality and fire department 2 minutes away. There should not have been such rapid flooding. It is an incredible situation.”
