A family affected by the hot weather in Istanbul on June 30th recounted the terrifying moment they experienced. A 1-year-old child who was playing with the fan used in their home suffered a serious injury when his finger got caught in the fan. Following the incident, the family quickly went to the Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital emergency room.
At the hospital where the incident occurred, Hand Surgery Department Education and Administrative Officer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Egemen Ayhan and his team examined the little boy’s condition. As a result of the examinations, it was determined that the finger was almost completely cut off and the bone was broken. The baby was immediately taken into surgery, an operation that lasted approximately 2 hours was performed and completed successfully.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Egemen Ayhan stated that they have been encountering fan accidents frequently lately and that such accidents have increased especially in the summer months. Ayhan stated that children between the ages of 1-2 are more prone to such accidents and that they have encountered 4-5 similar cases in the last month. He warned families to be careful about this issue.

- Children should be informed that toys are dangerous and not intended for use.
- In case of accidents, it is important to first cut off contact with the child and take the necessary precautions without panicking.
- In cases where surgery is required, a healthcare institution should be consulted as soon as possible and support should be sought from experts.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Egemen Ayhan also gave advice to parents on how to behave after accidents. He emphasized the importance of acting calmly and quickly, without panicking. He also provided detailed information on how to transport broken pieces.
Ayhan stated that it is necessary to be careful for the safety of children, especially in the summer months, and that major accidents can be prevented with small precautions.
