Statements by UN Official De Domenico

BM Yetkilisi De Domenico'nun Açıklamaları

Speaking at an online meeting of the UN Palestinian Journalists Association, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Palestine Lynn Hastings De Domenico said that the Israeli occupation’s call for an “evacuation” east of Khan Younis has caused the UN to reorganize its humanitarian operations. “Like the displaced people, we are constantly having to start our operations from scratch,” De Domenico said.

De Domenico stated that the attacks of the occupying Israel continue in the “so-called safe zones” it has declared. De Domenico, who reported that 247 of his colleagues have lost their lives to date, said that most of his colleagues were killed while on duty, while some were killed in their homes with their families. De Domenico said, “It’s time to stop.”

De Domenico, who stated that 9 out of 10 people in Gaza have been displaced at least once, said that there is constant movement in the region and that people are being sent from one place to another like pawns on a game board. De Domenico, who emphasized that the UN will remain in the region, drew attention to the fact that the distribution of humanitarian aid is full of hardships every day.

De Domenico, who stated that according to the Palestinian Bureau of Statistics, the population of Gaza is 2.3 million, said that it is estimated that approximately 110 thousand people have left Gaza and 37 thousand people have lost their lives. De Domenico emphasized that behind these figures are the feelings, fears and hopes of the people left behind.

De Domenico, who stated that the number of hospitals providing basic services in the region decreased after the evacuation of the European Hospital, said that they argued that the occupying Israel did not demand the evacuation of the hospitals, but did not share this information in a in a timely manner. De Domenico said, “People’s memories are still fresh about what happened in the Shifa and Nasser hospitals. That’s why fear prevails.”
