Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), announced on his social media account that Israeli forces opened fire on a UN convoy in Gaza yesterday. Stating that the convoy that was attacked came under heavy fire in the Gaza Valley region while on its way to Gaza City, Lazzarini noted that the UN armored vehicle, which was hit by 5 bullets, was severely damaged.

Lazzarini drew attention to the fact that the vehicles in the convoy that was attacked bore UN symbols and that the teams were wearing UN vests. Pointing out that the convoy was coordinated and approved by Israeli authorities before its departure, Lazzarini reported that there were no casualties in the attack and that the UN team continued on its way and reached Gaza.

Lazzarini shared, Humanitarian aid workers cannot be targeted. Those responsible must be held accountable.” he said. The Israeli army, which continues its violent attacks in Gaza, frequently targets aid organizations, especially the UN.
