Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, frequently faces questions about the implications of a potential second Trump administration on Ukraine. While Zelensky carefully chooses his words when responding, the underlying concern that Trump might halt American military assistance, potentially leading to Russian success in undermining Ukraine, is evident.

In a recent interview with Britain’s Channel 4 News, Zelensky expressed unease over Trump’s assertion during the debate with Biden that he alone knows the path to peace. Zelensky found this claim “a little scary,” emphasizing the emotional burden of such assumptions. He highlighted the devastating impact on Ukraine if American support wanes, potentially resulting in the loss of statehood.

Reflecting on the situation, Zelensky stated in an interview with Bloomberg that they need to be prepared for any risks to Ukrainian independence and understand the level of support from the U.S. in November. The uncertainty of either strong U.S. backing or standing alone weighs heavily on Ukraine’s leadership as they navigate these critical issues.
