Traffic and Infrastructure Problems in Bursa Due to Rainfall
Heavy rainfall first occurred in the east of the city, then moved westwards, causing serious traffic problems in Bursa. Vehicles had difficulty moving on main arteries such as Izmir Road, Mudanya Road, Istanbul and Ankara Road, roads covered with flood waters.
Due to insufficient manholes, main roads turned into lakes and some vehicles were stranded, especially on Izmir Road. Traffic police tried to ease the traffic by pushing the vehicles that were stranded on the road.
The rainfall also affected many houses, shops and factories. Passengers had a hard time in the metro when the Bursaray line turned into a waterfall. In addition, incestuous lightning strikes frightened citizens.
While hail caused damage to agricultural areas, streams passing through the city center overflowed and damaged the environment. The number of accidents with material damage has also increased.
Despite the negativities experienced, the fire department, BUSKİ and AFAD teams quickly intervened and extended a helping hand to the victims. Municipalities also took action to meet the needs of the citizens.
