Kayseri’s Yeşilhisar district draws attention with tomato production on an area of approximately 5 thousand decares. Tomatoes grown in this region attract great attention, especially from pizza producers in Europe, thanks to their plumpness and rich aroma. 8 thousand tons of tomatoes, laid out on exhibition areas in approximately 300 decare fields in the district, are dried with natural methods under the sun and exported.
The operator stated that they have been producing dried tomatoes in the district for 3 years. Ömer Fatih ErgülHe stated that a significant portion of the dried tomatoes of the world-famous Italian pizzas are supplied by tomatoes produced in Yeşilhisar. Ergül emphasized that they exported to 10 different countries.
‘We are considering doubling our exports’
Stating that the aroma of the tomatoes produced in Yeşilhisar is unique, Ergül said, “We started harvesting on August 15. Our harvest will continue until the end of September. We are currently exporting to 10 different countries. Among these countries, important countries such as Italy, Germany, Russia, America and Greece “Our tomatoes are often preferred in pizzas. “Our tomatoes are completely natural and their flavor is really different,” he said.
Ergül also explained how being located at the foot of Mount Erciyes and the temperature difference between day and night affects the aroma as follows: “The difference in night and day temperatures further enriches the aroma of tomatoes. We dry the tomatoes for 7 days and collect them on the 8th day. “We store them in our air storage and then export them. Our company has a tomato field of 900 decares. A total of 4,500-5 thousand decares of tomatoes are cultivated in Yeşilhisar. “We are displaying and drying tomatoes on an area of 300 decares,” he said. .
