Pressure on Foundations and Associations by CHP Municipalities in Istanbul
The pressures and protocol cancellations exerted by CHP municipalities, which took office after the local elections of March 31, 2019, against foundations and associations continuing serving the society. Recently, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s decision to evacuate the rectorate building of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University led to Bayrampaşa Municipality making a similar scandalous decision.
The Science Dissemination Society, which has been providing various services such as art, foreign language, sports and music courses, as well as education and Islamic courses, to thousands of students free of charge since 2014, had to vacate the building they were in as A result of the decision taken by the CHP Bayrampaşa Municipality.
The President Didn’t Even Make an Appointment
Making a statement to Yeni Şafak regarding the issue, Science Dissemination Society Bayrampaşa Branch President Mustafa Hoşoğlu stated that they requested an appointment to convey their best wishes to the municipality as of April 1, 2024 and to provide detailed information about the projects they are carrying out , but this request was rejected. Hoşoğlu stated that they were treated as ‘others’ and criticized the situation.
Continuity in Service is Essential
Drawing attention to the importance of continuity in public services, Hoşoğlu stated that the Science Dissemination Society, which was established in 1951 by the decision of the Council of Ministers, has the status of serving for the public good. Hoşoğlu said, “However, the current administration ignored this situation and implemented the evacuation decision on August 15, without question and without any explanation. We will find a new place as soon as possible and continue our activities there. We are aware that what happened It was for a completely ideological reason. We represent a Muslim community and we think that the decision to evacuate was taken for this reason,” he said.
