On November 12, 1974, a chilling event unfolded in the upscale neighborhood of Long Island involving Jack Teich, a childhood friend of my father. Jack, who had just returned home from his work at Acme Steel Partition and Door, his family’s steel-fabrication company in Brooklyn, was about to face a harrowing ordeal.

The Kidnapping Incident

It was 6:40 p.m. when Jack arrived at his residence in his Lincoln coupe on that rainy evening. As he parked in the driveway, he noticed the unusual glow of the garage door. Before he could comprehend the situation, the headlights of another car blinded him, revealing the presence of two mysterious figures.

The Kidnapping Incident

“Excuse me, do you know how to get to Northern Boulevard?” one of the masked men inquired. Jack, taken aback by the unexpected visitors, stepped out of his car only to realize the gravity of the situation. The men, armed with a silver pistol and a shotgun, demanded his compliance, threatening him with violence.

Feeling torn between his instinct to flee and the safety of his family inside the house, Jack stood frozen for a moment, contemplating his next move. The thought of his wife, Janet, and their two young sons, Marc and Michael, added urgency to his decision-making process.

Ultimately, the events that transpired that fateful night would leave an indelible mark on Jack Teich and those involved, shaping the course of their lives in unforeseen ways.
