According to a written statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Badr Abdulati and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had a productive telephone conversation. The meeting discussed strengthening relations between Egypt and the European Union and how to further build on the achievements of the Egypt-EU Investment Conference.
Abdulati spoke of Egypt’s support for the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, and said that they expected Germany’s support in this regard. He also called on the Israeli government to stop the war and implement UN Security Council resolutions to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The indirect negotiation process between Israel and Hamas continues after US President Joe Biden announced on May 31 that he had presented a new ceasefire proposal that Israel must accept. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the attacks in Gaza would continue until the specified goals were achieved. In his speech to the House Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on June 3, Netanyahu emphasized that there were differences between the proposal Israel proposed and the proposal Biden presented.
