Status of Polio Vaccines in Gaza
The ministry’s written statement said that nOPV type polio vaccines have been procured and that the necessary coordination efforts to bring these vaccines into Gaza are ongoing. It was also stated that the cold chain equipment required to safely preserve the vaccines has been delivered to the region and that this equipment will be distributed to the centers designated for vaccination in Gaza.
International organizations were asked to put pressure on Israel to stop attacks on the Gaza Strip and allow vaccines to enter the region.
First Polio Case
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on August 16 that the first case of polio was detected in the Gaza Strip. Health Minister Majid Abu Ramadan emphasized that this means that there may be hundreds of other cases in the region that have not yet been detected. Minister Ramadan’s statement once again highlighted the vital importance of vaccination.
