Statements by Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum visited the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, one of the 11 provinces most affected by the earthquake, and inspected the earthquake residences. The Minister emphasized the importance of investments made in the earthquake zone and said, “We will have delivered 200 thousand residences by the end of the year.”

The Minister Institution made the following statements regarding the transformation mobilization launched after the earthquake: “This earthquake is considered the greatest disaster of the 21st century. However, we are carrying out the greatest earthquake transformation mobilization of the 21st century with the solidarity of the century. To date, we have started the construction of 276 thousand houses in 11 provinces and delivered 76 thousand houses. Our goal is to deliver 200 thousand houses to earthquake victims by the end of the year. By 2025, there will be no homeless citizens left in the entire earthquake region.”

The Minister Institution also evaluated the work done by the delegation and said, “We are acting in line with the suggestions of our scientists. I would like to state that as a result of the detailed examinations they made in the Bosphorus region of Kahramanmaraş, unsuitable areas were identified due to landslide risk. Construction will continue with the measures to be taken in line with the scientific reports. It may be auspicious for Kahramanmaraş.”
